A perennial 8 win team will eventually get left out of college footballâs consolidation, and when that happens, the WHOLE school will suffer. Oregon State and Washington State went from nearly 30M in TV revenues to 7M or 8M (Iâve seen different numbers) when the Pac12 dissolved and they failed to find a premium landing spot. What would that kind of hit do to the OSU athletic budget? What sports get cut? So yes, I want us to aim at titles, because otherwise, whether we go 3-9 or 9-3 every year, we wonât be invited to the future Big Boys table.

All it will do is give them even more excuses for why we need to accept failure. You donât understand how some of these people think. First, it was an OU problem. Thatâs fine I suppose. Second, no players want to come to Stillwater. Despite the fact that before 2011 Gundy signed three top 25 classes. So they came to OSU when we were 7-6, but wonât when weâre 10-2?
Third, itâs because we have the lowest recruiting budget. Not acknowledging it was cut because Gundy hadnât signed a top 25 recruiting class in six years. Fourth, itâs because of NIL. Even though NIL is fairly recent, and Gundy initially refused to barely touch the portal anyway.
Fifth, and finally, itâs âwe canât do better than Gundyâ. Despite the fact that thereâs been three other coaches currently in the Big 12 that have won the conference within the first 2-3 years of being at their football programs. Also, we just seen Gundy go 0-9 in the conference while returning the most production.
Gundy could go 0-12 and continue to recruit FCS players. These people would still try to find something to excuse it all. You will NEVER get them to think outside the box or acknowledge that if Gundy left tomorrow it doesnât automatically guarantee weâre returning to the Bob Simmons days.

Why the argument about Knowles? He moved on. And we actually made a good hire behind him, imo, who unfortunately left after a season. And instead of going and getting another legit D1 coordinator, we decided to go to pluck a guy from the D3 ranks, who proved to be completely incapable of coaching a D1 level defense.
