I left out Harper, my bad ot1 , glad you caught it.
That story on Sanders and others slipping out is well confirmed by several very close to the program. He played like he was hung over bad.
I don’t think we lost anything with Stribling coming in, Collins is a better back than Richardson. Maybe Harper we didn’t replace ?
I started saying that Sanders thought he was bigger than the program about the 7th game. It’s funny we were averaging 35 points a game through 6 games last year and Gundy/ Dunn became dumb. Injuries were a big factor, big. That team last year developed internal friction, Lil P, Sanders ? @robert28 talked about the team meeting after losing to National runner up in over time , only half showed up ? Sanders had a very high opinion of himself, no one sat him down and told him what his liabilities were and why he should have taken the NIL money here … I don’t think Gundy wanted to lose Sanders . But like you say if you don’t have some sort of discipline you have nothing. We sorely need him this year
I’ve heard more from the same source that all this is true
Edit: I will always admire Sanders 100 percent in every game, tough .a competitor, guts, I’ll never take that away from him. He will always be a Cowboy to me. He just made a dumb move
I too am very grateful to Spencer’s efforts and performance for us all 4 years he put in for us. Sad to see him flame out just as he was nearing the possibility of NFL. This likely won’t be the last casualty of NIL turning BMOC into rockstar private jet setting BMOC much too early in their psychological development.
Gundy clearly didn’t want to lose Spencer, or he would have publicly stated that Spencer was unavailable due to code of conduct violations. Then let Spencer man-up or snark away with the media.
Would think that Rattay with a grand total of 5 or 6 players to coach could have sat him down, or perhaps Dunn, then lastly Gundy. And of course most likely all three had pointed conversations with the young man.
What has Rattay done with QB’s here ? I don’t see much development in Rangle, Gundy is on his own I guess. Spencer was about as good as a freshman as a senior. Made bad throws into traffic, never really learned you can’t have a gain on every play. Let’s hope Flores has more potential.
I laugh at the one-sided perspective of the guys that left. Seems like the majority feel like “look what they’re doing now. They’re average players at best”. Then in the next breath, the same people will assume that if those guys (who you say are average players) had stayed in Stillwater……then this version of OSU would be 3-1 or 4-0. Very comical. So to summarize….they leave….they’re average. If they stay……the Cowboys are 3-1/4-0. Got it. All of this is to be done while being coached by (according to the same people) a terrible OC, Oline coach, & a HC whom most want fired. Got it.
Looking at it now Sanders covered up an INSANE amount of complete ineptness from the coaching staff. We don’t get our ass whooped by what now looks to be a shitty South Alabama team with him. I want all those defensive players back that we lost but not having Sanders is the real difference between 2-2 and 4-0/3-1.
Not all of us think that those that left were nothing burgers so stop it with that narrative. Also in successful team sports the sum is greater than the parts. A major advantage that is lost when the team gets scattered to the winds. Thought you were smarter than that.
I don’t know if this was directed at me or not Ketchup’ but besides Cobb , JP, and maybe Muhammad what did we lose ? You’ve never heard me say I wanted JP to leave, Cobb was going to USC whatever the circumstances. Close to home Muhammad got more money i guess. Look at the numbers of the other players !! Small numbers , very few plays. None are starters
Spencer Sanders: Doing nothing at Ole Miss. But, he would be a major upgrade for OSU. LOSS
Caleb Etienne: He started at OSU. He was starting at BYU and got benched last week. Was the starter for OSU and would be this year. LOSS
Dom Richardson: Ollie Gordon has accounted for 289yds. Richardson has accounted for 272 @Baylor. Thats a push
JP Richardson: Hes caught 17 balls for 272yds. Thats more yds than any Cowboy WR. LOSS
Mason Cobb: The best LB on a team that could make a playoff appearance. LOSS
Trace Ford: Starting @OU. LOSS
Jabbar Muhammad: Playing very well for Washington: LOSS
Thomas Harper: Spot playing time at ND. Started at OSU and wouldve this year too: LOSS
Kanion WIilliams: Same story as Harper: LOSS
Bryson Green: Has caught 8 balls for 83 yds at Wisconsin. Ill say its a PUSH
Stephon Johnson: 8 for 62. Same as Green. PUSH
So to answer your question of “what did we lose?” Ummmm your best QB. Your best WR. Your starting LT. Your best CB. Your best S. Your best LB. Two pretty good options at WR. One of your top RB’s. You lost guys that are factoring in at Washington, ND, OU, BYU, TCU, USC, Wisconsin. Those teams are all better than OSU and some are playoff contenders.
Missing Jabbar Muhammad at Washington. Loss.
Its in there. Just wasnt highlighted for some reason
I thought we would’ve recovered better with some of our portal pickups but ■■■■ not having Sanders really tanked this team. I think him alone negates a decent amount of the other losses.
People take shots at Sanders. Say he was a cancer. A lockerroom issue. Maybe so. But……what is the reason for the other guys? A captain like JPR? The guys that left were really good players who went to really good programs. Not all, but the majority.
And now we have an immobile Bowman passing very similarly to Spencer. Low prob pass selection, irratic accuracy, slow reads, locks on receivers, questionable mechanics.
How are our QB’s coached both during practice and during games?
Is it Dunn calling a play, then Rattay sending in?
Is Rattay limited to “development” with Dunn “calling plays”?
Do QB’s have to talk with both Dunn and Rattay on the headsets?
Ketchup going to disagree bad with you
Etinne graded the worst of all linemen herd last year. BYU found out why , he’s terrible
Harper… Martin has played as well or better
JP … you must have skipped over where I said I
didn’t want him to go
Cobb Was going whatever the circumstances
closer to home. He would have gone
there first if offere
Gordon…. You really think Richardson is as good
Johnson… not a loss
Green…. not starting for a running team no loss
Stribling was an upgrade
Collins. Better back than Dom
Sanders … do you really know the story on him ?
He was offered a chit load before he entered the portal. He was a cancer in the house after the sixth game of ‘22. Same as Lil P
Sure Sanders would be the man in control but you don’t know the circumstances why he’s gone
Muhammad … loss
The others are playing at a different level
Ford How many snaps has he played, is he starting ? I didn’t see him make a play Saturday
I’ve never taken shots at Sanders , I’ve said many times I admired his toughness, his 100 percent give it all and a competitor. You evidently didn’t see the attitude that developed towards the end of the season. Trammel reporting that he was turned down to come back ? False He wanted to come back as soon as bowl game practice was over.
Gundy said okay but you won’t start the game. What type of message would that have sent to the team if he was allowed to do that !!
Sanders made a dumb decision
See I thought Bowman would have been good at throwing the Tech offense of short intermediate passes… maybe the rust is still there Rangle I’ve never been high on. Gundy is what he is i guess
Let’s hope Flories is better than the rest. Maybe see some playing time without losing his RS
Mason was tossed in about the same situation
You should read the Haisten article that was in the bullets yesterday or day before. Good article
Ford almost pulled off the fumble recovery touchdown getting the Safety. He’s doing well, but not sure he would have been a game changer for us.
T. Harper is reported to be doing the same for ND as for us - lots of good plays, then busted assignments. He’s getting $200K NIL.
Sadly Spencer is likely just one of many big money in the pocket casualties of NIL. Bentley’s down the Strip, private charter flights with strippers, and wide open bar tabs will end up being doom for many kids.
Absolutely it will happen. The kid we played against at Arizona St was at Florida and he supposedly had a million dollar deal. Then it fell through, reason he’s at Arizona St. … Harper getting 200k is not in our ballpark. Sanders had a million dollar deal with everything promised
It’s going to become the haves and the have nots , or we are already there. It’s a dam shame a good game is ruined by greed It’s not a better product, it’s the same game Give me a kid that will play for the love of the game over money.
It is what it is now and I don’t think they can ever get control of it.
Look at ATM , they have had a top rated top 5 the last 3-4 years and they can’t even make a bowl with Aggie money
“Etinne…he’s terrible” Dude, if you think he couldnt help your Oline right now…then youre crazy. And again, he was your starter last year.
“Harper… Martin has played as well or better” Again, he was a starter. Just because these guys leave your team doesnt mean theyre now bad players.
“Gordon…. You really think Richardson is as good” No I dont. I think Gordon is really good. But for you to act like one is far better than the other is pretty comical. Theyve produced virtually the same
“Ford How many snaps has he played, is he starting ?” Yes. Hes started every game for OU. Now, they rotate pretty heavily, but hes played well.
Ill leave it alone. You lost a bunch of starters, are staring down the barrel of an abysmal season and somehow still arent willing to call a spade a spade.
